Abstract:In order to remove pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes safely, scientifically, and effectively in the preservation of paper documents, this article reviews related research conducted by conservators and restorers both domestically and internationally. Focusing on three stages of treatment—tape carrier removal, adhesive accretion removal from the paper surface, and adhesive removal from the paper interior—the article introduces several practical and effective techniques, including mechanical peeling, heat-softening, vapor chamber, sandwiching, poulticing, direct application of solvent, and suction table. The goal is to provide technical support for beginners and professionals when performing adhesive tape removal operations. |
